With the holidays fast approaching, many are dreading the seasonal stuffing they seem to do. If you are feeling like a fat turkey already, you probably don’t have a plan to lose inches and fat before the feasting begins.
Diet companies are banking on your depression and urgency to join them. This is the time of year when sales surge, tv commercials add up, and your sizes increase while your bank account gets drained. Companies are also banking on your previous failures. That is because diets are designed to fail. Diets represent temporary solutions to poor choices and are never permanent. Losing weight is futile unless you commit to a lifestyle change. If you always do what you’ve done, you’re going to get what you’ve always got - fatter.
Science has demonstrated since the 1990’s the power of low glycemic eating. This has just caught the attention of most weight loss companies within the last 2 years. Interestingly enough, these companies just started their, “now carbs are good” commercials, hoping you will enjoy their new ads while forgetting that for years they advocated low or even no carbs.
The Atkin’s diet is still being touted as a safe, effective diet plan and represents perhaps the most dangerous diet plan out their. Yet people swear by it all the while destroying their brain due to a lack of carbohydrates. Weight Watcher’s has you count points. How stupid is that? Do you want to add up points daily for the rest of your life? Nutra System has you eating frozen processed foods because they think you are incapable of selecting your own food, or hoping you are just to lazy to take responsibility for your food selections. Slim Fast shakes taste like the metal they come in.
Beginning to get the picture?
All of these companies are good at marketing. They just don’t know physiology or if they do, choose to ignore it. Our bodies are meant to consume low glycemic food throughout the day. Not just 1 or 2 large meals a day. Most American’s barely eat enough to keep a dog alive and still get fat. Low glycemic foods do not cause a surge of insulin to be dumped into the blood stream. The result is sustained energy and not the roller coaster carbo crash you experience an hour or 2 after you eat.
Low glycemic foods have more fiber content, therefore take longer to digest, again keeping blood sugar levels at a reasonable level. By eating something every 2-3 hours you are guaranteed to nourish your body, thus breaking down fat into energy because the body doesn’t need the extra. Inches come off first with fat then weight.
Most diet plans have you losing weight first. Unfortunately most people buy into the marketing hype and have no clue what they are really doing to their body.
The first thing you lose on a diet is water.
The second thing you lose is muscle mass and bone mass. This would seem to be important for those who are worried about osteoporosis wouldn’t you agree?
The third thing you lose is fat. This is why so many diet plans fail. That and people do not understand the need for a permanent lifestyle change. They want an instantaneous solution to years of poor eating choices.
If you are ready to make the decision to change your life, then I am prepared to work with you. But while you interview me, I am interviewing you to see if you have what I am looking for. If you are not ready to change, then continue eating the way you are now. I’ll be here when you are tired of doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result.
